( two spoons get pulled out of the next drawer jason gets to, before he's staggering his way back over to the couch. considering the obvious lack of any kind of fucking weapon on him, he must be fairly comfortable. )

[Kate laughs at that, finally digging out the bottle opener and following him to the couch with the beer.]

Because Loki is a weirdo?

[She says it perfectly affectionately.]

( jason's careful when he moves to sit, bending cautiously as to not strain anything. not fuck up anything, because he keeps doing it anyway. )

Nah, Lo's fine.

( weird but in a way jason appreciates. )

Makes good pancakes, too.

[fledges]

Lo, huh?

[She sits, then pops open one of the beers and hands it over.]

You two are using nicknames now?

[reneger]

Two syllables is clearly too many.

( a soft "thanks" as he takes the beer in hand, takes a good few swigs from the bottle. )

Uh huh. Definitely. What is he calling you?

[reneger]

My name, obviously.

( one he hasn't shared with kate yet. there's probably no big reason to hide it from her, when he's already spilled with markus and loki. but. )

Nothing special 'bout it.

[fledges]

You mean your real name isn't "Matches"?

[She gasps, hand going to her collarbone in faux shock.]

You lied?

[reneger]

Never said that. I said he calls me by my name.

( not that it wasn't matches, gosh kate!! )

[fledges]

[She snorts, then takes a swig of her beer. Matches. Who names their kid Matches?]

Okay, okay. At least it's not "Journey" or "Paisley" or something.

[reneger]

Malone works fine, too. Not like there's anyone else on the network with it.

( look his parents were huge fucking disasters do not go into them with him. )

[Kate leans over to clink her bottle against his.]

Well, here's to stuffing our faces with ice cream, Malone.

[reneger]

( glass against glass and he laughs a little, raises the bottle back up to his lips before reaching to open up the ice cream. )

Here's to weird assed future ice cream.

[fledges]

[She grins at him.]

Tradition states that we have to tell each other all of our secrets and crushes and gossip about the cheerleaders.

[reneger]

Secrets, crushes, and gossip? You sure don't hold back, Kate.

( what is this ice cream even made out of, does jason even care? nah. he's eating it anyway. )

I'll give you two more questions.

[fledges]

[Kate laughs at that, scooping up a spoonful of ice cream for herself. She's not really interested in digging for Deep Dark Secrets right now—she's just messing with him.]

Okay, first question. Most embarrassing thing you've ever done?

[reneger]

Guess it depends on your definition of embarrassing.

( but okay. he'll give as good of an answer as he can, why not. )

I walked around in someone else's hero get up for a while, just to be a dick.

[fledges]

[She snorts at that.]

What do you mean, to be a dick?

[reneger]

( get it, his name is dick. haha, inside jokes. )

I was always jealous of him. Liked to screw him over. Soon as he disappeared for a bit? There I was.

[fledges]

Jealous of him why? He couldn't possibly be as cute as you.

[reneger]

That's where you're wrong.

( eyes looking over to kate even if he doesn't tilt his head in towards her, a brow raising. )

He's a born performer. Bred for it, even. Moves like a fucking ballerina on steroids, not to mention he's gorgeous. I never stood a chance against him. Everyone loves him--and when I say everyone? I mean everyone. Villains, heroes, everything in between. He's like an Adonis in tights.

[She was mostly kidding, but...]

What do you mean, you never stood a chance?

[reneger]

Inherited his suit when he moved on. The first one.

( how can he make this as vague as possible while still making sense. )

All I ever heard was "well you're not THAT guy, so."

I get that a lot, too. Maybe not in the exact same way, but...

[She shrugs, then leans over to bump her shoulder into his.]

Inheriting names can be rough sometimes.

I had a crush on this girl, growing up. Absolutely amazing chick. Smart, independent, didn't let anyone tell her what to do. And I finally got to meet her--I was so excited.

( but his voice is fond, even if the words aren't. great. )

The first thing she said to me? "You'll never be him." A lot've shit's happened since, I don't hold it against her. She's right, I'll never be him. We see the world in entirely different lights, he's all sunshine and rainbows, doesn't see the shades of grey like I do.
