I get the feeling someone's pushing things in my direction.

[ THROUGH THE WINDOW HE COMES. he's got takeout - and a split lip, but eh. if you fight enough assholes in a row one of them is gonna hit you. ]

[The way to Kate's heart is through food, but while she takes the bag, she doesn't open it yet.]

Thanks. Let me see your lip.

[batricide]

It's nothing.

[ He wants to eat leave him alone Katherine ]

[fledges]

[Nope! She's not leaving him alone. In fact, she's standing on her tiptoes and leaning forward to get a better look, all up in his personal space. Then she smiles.]

It makes you look tough, though.

[batricide]

he feels his face heat and leans back, looking annoyed. ]

It was a lucky shot.

[Oh. That sure is a new reaction. Kate leans back again, not wanting to kill him outright. She digs in the bag for a second, then tosses him a fortune cookie.]

Let's see if your luck is better this time.

[batricide]

[ A roll of his eyes, he leans against the counter and cracks the cookie. ]

... "Your problem just got bigger. Think, what have you done."

[fledges]

[Kate winces.]

Wow. I think that's the most pessimistic fortune I've ever heard.

[batricide]

I make my own fate.

[ crumpling it up and grabbing his takeout dish, sitting on the floor because good god kate your apartment blows. ]

[fledges]

[It isn't her fault she's broke! She sits down beside him, opening her own cookie.]

"Use your head, but live in your heart." Cute.

[batricide]

[ A scoff. ]

That's apt enough for you.

[fledges]

Is it?

[She digs out a pair of chopsticks and pokes him in the shoulder with them.]

That's okay. We balance each other out, right?

[batricide]

Someone has to protect you from yourself.

[ he tolerates it. look at that. ]

[fledges]

[She pauses, plucking at one of his sleeve panels.]

Vinyl?

[batricide]

[ waving her hand away. ]

It's fire resistant.

[fledges]

Thinking ahead, huh? What were you going to tell me, anyway?

[batricide]

[ munches down on a wonton. ]

The guy that stabbed me was in the ring tonight.

[fledges]

He was?

[That's sketchy.]

That seems like a stupid place to track you down.

[batricide]

Not really.

She clearly knows who we are. She knows how we fight. Someone wanting to redeem themselves and get paid is just killing two birds with one stone.

[fledges]

[She clicks her tongue, opening a box of lo mein.]

But you said someone is pushing things in your direction. Throwing the fights?

[batricide]

Maybe.

[ He stabs into a ''''''chicken'''''' ball. ]

I just noticed I'm getting a bigger paycheck and seeing familiar faces in the crowds. [ annoyance flickers across her face. ] I offered to train her men before she slunk off. Maybe she figures they'll learn a thing or two from a beating.

[fledges]

That's shady. I don't like it.

[She twirls the noodles around her chopsticks, frowning over at him.]

Maybe I should start coming with you.
